Terms of use

Last updated 29 September 2026

MetaSelf is a personal Android application, written by one person for their own use. It is not sold, not advertised, not published on any app store, and is installed by copying a file. These terms are short because the arrangement is simple.

It is not medical advice

Nothing in this application is medical, dietary or clinical advice. It computes a daily calorie target from population formulas — the same ones every such app uses — which carry real error bars for any individual. It estimates the contents of meals using an AI model, and reads nutrition figures from a community-maintained food database. Both are often approximately right and sometimes wrong. Its trainer is the same kind of AI model: what it suggests is not coaching, physiotherapy or clearance to exercise.

If you have a medical condition, are pregnant, are recovering from an eating disorder, or are starting exercise after an injury or illness, or making any decision where being wrong would matter, speak to a qualified professional. Do not use these numbers in place of one.

The numbers are estimates, and say so

Every figure the application stores records where it came from — typed by you, estimated by a model, read off a package label, or copied from an earlier meal. This is deliberate, so that a guess can never quietly be mistaken for a measurement. Please treat them accordingly.

No warranty

The application is provided as it is, with no warranty of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for any particular purpose. It may contain defects. It may lose data. It may be unavailable. The author accepts no liability for any loss or harm arising from its use, to the extent the law permits.

Keep your own copies. The application can export everything you have logged to a single file at any time, and can write a copy automatically to a folder you choose. Use them.

Services it uses on your behalf

The application has no service of its own, no server, and no account. There is nothing to sign up for and nothing to cancel.

If you contribute food data

Sending a product to Open Food Facts publishes it, credited to your username, under that database's licence. Send only what is printed on the package. The application will not send an AI estimate to a shared database, because a guess published where others rely on it is a different thing from a guess kept to yourself.

No support, and no obligation

This is one person's project. There is no support commitment, no service level, and no undertaking that it will be maintained, updated or kept working. It may stop working at any time — for instance if an external service changes — and there is no promise that it will be fixed.

Changes
